A sweet surprise

I have recently been re-organizing and downsizing my life, and have come across many forgotten treasures. Old books buried at the back of my closet, a missing slipper under the bed…until today these finds- while pleasant, haven’t really been fabulous. Then came the moment when I found a roll of undeveloped film, and a undeveloped disposable camera. I brought them into Target this morning for 1-hour processing and wondered what they would contain. I figured probably some random shots of the kids from a couple of years ago (I’m REALLY bad at turning film in!) or something like that. After all, I haven’t had a film camera since the lovely Thanksgiving of 2006 when I was robbed. My camera bag that held my much loved GII Rebel also held something more precious- several rolls of film that I had taken when I was in the hospital after giving birth to Jack. Losing those rolls of film is what hurt me the most from the robbery. I would have gladly let the burgler keep the camera if he would just give me my film back. I do have several shots of Jack moments after birth, taken by my Mom with her digital camera, but only 4 or 5. Well…back to today. The disposable camera held pictures of Christmas 2006 (no camera, so had to do disposable!) and those are great. The roll of film? It has pictures of Gabriels first day of kindergarten, a few shots of the kids at our house in Virginia before we moved, and 8 precious, precious shots of my sweet baby Jackson in the hospital. What a gift fate has given me today. I have no idea how this little roll of film ended up outside of my camera bag, but I am so very, very happy to have found it.

Our last summer weekend

School starts on Monday. HOORAY! My house will now be *almost* quiet during the day, except for the terror that is almost two year old Jack! That kid has some lungs, let me tell you. We are spending our Saturday morning cleaning house and doing mounds of laundry. In addition to preparing for the start of school, my younger sister Mallory is coming for a visit tonight. Did I tell you- she’s expecting her first baby!! Her boyfriend of several years proposed to her last time she visited him (he’s in the Navy, works on the ship that Demetryus used to be on, and is currently in California, soon to be Japan.) and she is just glowing! I can’t wait to see her, she is coming to look for an apartment, since Devonte (fiance) will not be back for the birth of the baby. Such is military life. So anyway, we are getting ready for her visit today and our big picnic tomorrow. Hopefully I will remember to bring my camera this time to share kid pics! They are getting so big, I can hardly believe it. Gabe will be 8 in November, Natalie is 6 and Jack is nearly 2. Where on earth did the time go??

Where do you craft?

Here is my cozy little space 🙂 It holds all of my essentials, a portion of my fabric stash, and various other crafty things. I live in a super small apartment, so this is actually a corner of my living room. But I love it! I have a large set of shelves in my bedroom that hold the rest of the fabric and other assorted things, and then several large rubbermaid tubs FUUUUULL of yarn. Now share where YOU sit and make the magic happen!!

Knitting again

Today is a sick day for everyone…I feel like sitting on the sofa and watching movies until I fall asleep. And what crafty activity to do at the same time? Why, knit something of course! I haven’t touched my needles in MONTHS, and have been feeling a very strong urge to do so lately. I’ve picked out the yarn to make something for Milli’s wee peanut, and now I just have to finish this post and pick out the right size needles, then I’m off! Hope you all have a good weekend.

We’re here.

And, it’s not so bad. They did quite a few renovations since I moved out last year, and so far I haven’t had any problems with neighbors or anything. We moved in last Friday, and are still unpacking the last few things. 740 square feet doesn’t stretch very far. Oh well. It’s liveable, and it’s cheap. Things could be worse! D and I have been talking a little lately, and he’s making all his usual promises to start sending child support. I’d love to believe it, but I have to have cash in hand first. Until then…we’ll see. Kids are doing well, they like the new place and their new room. They are on spring break this week, and once school starts up again next Tuesday, we’ll have a little extra walk to get to the bus stop (different school zone now, but they can still finish out the year at the old school), but even that is not so bad. Overall, life is good at the moment.

Ugh, how I wish I had a digital camera right now! My mama’s birthday is tomorrow, and I whipped her up an art bag from scratch. Cool retro print canvas, hand stitched denim applique spelling out “art” on the front, blue cotton lining with a wicked pocket, and a cool purple leather handle. It’s for her to carry her supplies to her classes and such. I can’t even begin to describe how cool it is! Maybe I’ll get mom to snap a picture so I can share. I’m so proud of it 🙂 Oh yeah, in case you didn’t know, my mom is an artist!  She and I just had a really great time at Clay Day at Artists Oasis , and made several really cool pendants. One of the ones I made is going into a swap package for a buddy over on Craftster. I’m so excited to be into swaps again…this one is Fairytales and Folklore, and I’m having an absolute blast.

So see, I’m trying to get back into the swing of things. Pulling myself out of the crushing depression of a few months ago. Living my life to the best of my ability, and enjoying my kiddos every day. Life is good 🙂

Living

So, we’re still here. Not doing the best, not living on the street either. At the end of the month we will be moving back to the dreaded ghetto, where the rent is cheaper. Although, the complex has done a rather nice job of sprucing the place up since I left, and (so they say) have gotten rid of a lot of the bad tenants. We’ll see…stay tuned for more neighbor drama, I’m sure!

So I’m on a packing/weeding out crap mission today and don’t have much time to post…but wanted to pop in and say hello. I’m selling off a bunch of my knitting/crochet books that I no longer need (I have a bit of an addiction, and this is only a small portion of my stash!) so let me know if anyone is interested. Later peeps!
